Escort Carrier Ingame

The Escort Carrier is a light frigate a available to the Imperial Remnant in Eras 1–5. It carries an armament of 10/2 Laser Cannons and 1/1 Concussion Missile Launcher.

HistoryEdit

In the aftermath of the Battle of Ton-Falk, where a group of Rebel starfighters destroyed 2 EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates and a Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser, the need was seen for a compact carrier that could deploy a large number of TIEs directly into battle. From this, Kuat Drive Yards developed the Escort carrier. Not much more than a hangar with engines, the Escort carrier was the smallest Imperial starship capable of housing a full wing of TIE fighters. Being purpose built, these ships were much more economical to field than an Imperial Star Destroyer, and often accompanied higher priority convoys. Being severely under-armed for a ship its size, the Escort carrier would usually deploy its TIE fighters and then wait safely out of the battlefield.

Use IngameEdit

The Escort Carrier is the primary Imperial Remnant carrier, being the only one available throughout all five Eras. A well-rounded carrier, holding 6 full squadrons of various TIE models for only two population points, fielding a few of these on the battlefield is never a bad idea for the Remnant, as it needs all the fighters it can get to counter the superior New Republic and Empire of the Hand models.

The main weakness of the Escort carrier is its fragility, it must stay out of battle or else it will be destroyed, no questions asked. In short, the Escort carrier is quite probably the most important light frigate accessible to the Imperial Remnant, and should be used as often as possible.
