GAT-12 Skipray Blastboat Ingame

The GAT-12 Skipray Blastboat is a starfighter available to the Pentastar Alignment in Eras 1–5. It carries an armament of 3 Medium Ion Cannons, 2 Laser Cannons, and 2 Proton Torpedoes.

The Skipray was designed by Republic Sienar Systems prior to he Clone Wars, based on the Turbostorm-class gunship. While small enough to be carried inside a capital ship as a fighter, its immense power output, weaponry, and shielding led several registries to classify it as a capital ship. Later, it was sold primarily to the Imperial Navy. Those Imperial commanders that received Skiprays highly praised the ship. However, Naval tactical philosophy was not open to the idea of a hyperspace-capable hybrid starfighter, and largely snubbed the class. This led Sienar Fleet Systems to sell the class on the open market. Only then did the craft gain true notoriety as a staple of corporate, mercenary, pirate and smuggler fleets. It saw great success both within and without the Imperial Navy in Outer Rim patrol forces. Most notably, the Skipray was used by the Zann Consortium as its main bomber.

Oversector Outer was one such area where Skiprays were found, both in Imperial Fleets and in use by the Corporate Sector Authority. When Grand Moff Ardus Kaine broke away from the Empire after Palpatine's death, he realized the usefulness of this fighter and incorporated it into the Pentastar Alignment fleet.

The Skipray is one of the three unique fighters that the Pentastar Alignment receives. It is a decent all-around ship, capable of destroying other fighters. Not a fast or agile craft, the Skipray has to do as much damage in the first pass and then outlast the enemy. It is certainly well-equipped to do so, with some of the heaviest shielding and armor of any fighter in the game. However, its primary utility is in an anti-capital assault role, utilizing its ion cannons and torpedoes to punch through shielding so its parent Munificents can deal damage directly to the hull. Be warned, the Skipray must be kept away from corvettes; its lack of speed means it is easy prey to these ships, yet the munificents can also make short work of this. In short, the Skipray is a heavy assault starfighter best used to soften capital ships and damage vital ship hardpoints.
