The Phalanx-class Heavy Destroyer is the heaviest ship in the Empire of the Hand's arsenal. Its DPS is only surpassed by the SSDs. It can only be built at Capital Shipyards.

History[]

The heaviest ship in any EotH armada, the

Phalanx-class Heavy Destroyer was designed by Sycan Fleet Systems as a successor to the already impressive Syndic-class Destroyer. Equipped primarily with Dual and Quad Megamasers, the Phalanx-class Heavy Destroyer can easily engage most capital ships (Tector-class Star Destroyer and weaker, Praetor Mark II-class Battlecruiser however may be more powerful or may be its main rival) and pull ahead. However, there are several hull sections on the ship used to dispose of excess heat, which is a potential vulnerability if discovered by New Republic or Imperial Remnant fighters.

Being called the 'heaviest ship in the Empire of the Hand's arsenal' is a clear enough reason to employ the use of them. Two of these ships per fleet is enough to supply half of the necessary ship-to-ship firepower. They also launch Furion-class Starfighters, easily capable of combating other starfighters and frigates alike.

With their lack of engine hardpoints, they are particularly useful as raid fleets, able to retreat at any time.

One of the most dangerous threats to the Phalanx-class Heavy Destroyer is overwhelming firepower from small, fast frigates, namely the Carrack-class Light Cruiser and Strike-class Medium Cruiser. Whilst the Phalanx-class Heavy Destroyers do have impressive firepower themselves, it might not be enough to stop ten or more of those light frigates from speeding past them and taking out your Phalanx-class Heavy Destroyers from behind. In short, the Phalanx-class Heavy Destroyer is a highly effective warship, but must be heavily defended by ships of all classes if you intend on keeping them safe during battle.
